MIXING GOLF AND FRISBEE, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Whether you have experience or not, disc golf is a sport for everyone! Mixing the rules of golf and the technique of Frisbee, you will have the chance to try an activity that is both family friendly and competitive. First time players? We’re happy to explain the rules and tricks of disc golf here. If you want to start playing and build up to it, we recommend you read our article on the different ways to play disc golf. You’ll find several variations of the game, including one that is more suitable for families and young children!
Here are some basics:
Goal
First of all, the goal of disc golf, like golf, is to play the entire course in a minimum of throws. That is to say, at each of the 18 holes, the player must try to get his disc into the metal basket that acts as a hole (see image below).
Playing the game (standard way of playing)
It is important to start each hole by throwing your disc from the starting area. This will be indicated by signs announcing which hole you are at and a mark on the ground to mark your throwing area, as shown below.
When playing in a group, players must throw one at a time. For your safety, you should avoid throwing your disc until the other people on your team are out of your range. No one wants to get a Frisbee in the forehead!
After all players have thrown their tee shots, the player whose disc is farthest from the basket will be the next to throw. Starting with the second throw, the player must now throw behind where the disc came to rest. Once you have retrieved your disc and settled down to throw, you are allowed to pivot with your foot to better align yourself with the basket.
To complete the hole, your disc must land in the basket or in the chains. You can then move on to your next hole. If the disc lands on top of the basket, it does not count as a successful basket. The player must pick up the disc and then drop it into the basket. This adds an extra throw.
The game ends once the 9 or 18 holes are completed. The winner is the player who accumulated the least amount of shots (points).
Penalties
When there is a requirement to go around a tree, you will see a sign. These out-of-bounds areas are called « OB ». This means that your disc must not cross or land outside the boundaries. At this point, you will have to pick up your disc and restart your shot in the playable area from the last throw location. A penalty shot will be added to your scorecard for each infraction.
Since disc golf coexists with mountain biking, we do not want a disc to prevent cyclists from riding on mountain bike trails or even colliding with a course player.
Code of Conduct
Players may not break, bend or hold up objects or vegetation in order to create space for their shot or to make a path to the basket. Respect for nature is the essence of the game.
If you see that the group behind you is faster, stop at the next tee to let them pass. Continue on your way afterwards.
In order to keep the environment clean, we ask that you do not litter the course, keep it clean so that the game is enjoyable for all.
